Who we are
Kohn Strategies supports organizations in identifying where systems, structures, and practices are limiting their mission and rebuilding them to better reflect equity, sustainability, and effective ways of operating.
Founded by Nancy Kohn, Kohn Strategies emerged after more than a decade of work in urban agriculture, food systems, and nutrition initiatives across nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Through this work, Nancy witnessed firsthand the complexity of mission-driven institutions: leaders who cared deeply about their communities, yet often found themselves operating within systems and practices that unintentionally perpetuated inequity, burnout, and fragmentation.
These experiences shaped Nancy’s approach to organizational change. Rather than focusing solely on programs or policy, her work centers on strengthening the underlying systems, leadership practices, and organizational cultures that determine whether institutions can truly fulfill their mission.
Nancy approaches her work as both a systems thinker and a social justice practitioner. She believes that organizations must continually examine the ways power, culture, and structure influence their outcomes and that meaningful change requires both structural clarity and agile awareness.
